Arthur Perschetz Brings Leading Captive Insurance Practice to Baker & Daniels
01/27/2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Arthur D. Perschetz, a leading practitioner in captive insurance and related alternative risk mechanisms, has joined Baker & Daniels LLP as counsel in the law firmâs insurance and financial services group. He also will serve as a senior advisor with B&D Consulting, an advisory and advocacy division of Baker & Daniels.
A pioneer in the captive insurance industry in the District of Columbia, where he has practiced for 10 years, Perschetz was previously the senior legal officer for the U.S. operations of two major insurance companies, located in New York/Charlotte, N.C., and Baltimore.
"Arthur brings decades of knowledge and experience to our team. He is recognized as an innovative thinker in the field of insurance law and a leader in representing captives and risk retention groups," said Charlie Richardson, who chairs Baker & Daniels' insurance and financial services group from the firm's Washington, D.C., office.
"Bringing Arthur on board is another important step in our strategy to deliver the nation's leading insurance law and consulting services," Richardson added. "Arthur is a great asset for our clients who are looking to be ahead of the curve on market and regulatory changes."
Perschetz was actively involved in drafting the captive insurance laws of Washington, D.C., which are generally recognized as the most forward thinking in the United States. Much of his practice focuses on the formation of captive insurers and risk retention groups. His experience in insurance-related regulatory and corporate matters and lobbying includes company and agency formation, acquisitions, sales and mergers.
Perschetz also advises clients on corporate restructuring alternatives such as demutualizations and mutual holding company reorganizations, as well as on matters involving redomestication and a wide range of holding company issues. Additionally, he counsels clients on bank insurance sales programs, including Internet-related sales matters.
Perschetz speaks and writes frequently about captive insurers and risk retention groups and is active in a number of insurance industry organizations. He was formerly chairman of the Captive Insurance Council of the District of Columbia and is currently a lecturer at the International Center for Captive Insurance Education. He previously served on several National Association of Insurance Commissioners industry advisory committees and on the boards of directors of insurance guaranty associations.
Perschetz holds a law degree from Syracuse University, from which he also earned his bachelorâs degree, and completed an executive education program at Northwestern Universityâs Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
