Professional Experience
Dr. David Bodde is a member of the energy, climate and environment practice group where he advises and guides clients on priorities and opportunities before the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). David once served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for policy and currently is completing a major research grant to design and validate a more effective innovation process for the auto industry.
David currently serves as a Senior Fellow and Professor at Clemson University's Arthur M. Spiro Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership. His research, teaching and consultation focuses include:
- Technology and strategy in the energy industries;
- New venture investment, particularly in energy technologies;
- Advanced energy technology; and
- Corporate entrepreneurship.
Previously, David spent eight years at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, as the Charles N. Kimball Chair in Technology and Innovation. He held a joint appointment as Professor of Engineering and Business Administration. His other work experience includes leading the Midwest Research Institute as Corporate Vice President and President of its for-profit subsidiary as well as the National Academy of Science's Executive Director of the Commission on Engineering and Technical Systems. He also served as Assistant Director of the Congressional Budget Office. David was a captain in the U.S. Army where he earned a Bronze Star Medal and served as a combat engineer in Vietnam.
