Community Redevelopment

A major aspect of our communities and local governments practice is community redevelopment.

Listed below are a few examples of our work in the area of community redevelopment consulting:

  • B&D Consulting led the development of legislation which transferred more than 200 acres of federal land to the District of Columbia. This 18-month process required work with six committees of Congress, Office of Management and Budget, the White House and the National Park Service and led to the successful creation of a river walk at no cost to the city.
  • For more than 20 years, B&D Consulting has been serving a city that was negatively impacted by the closing of an automobile plant, helping secure more than $4 million in federal funding. Furthermore, in 2006, B&D Consulting played a key role in developing and getting approval for an unprecedented 108 loan of $12 million that allowed our client to complete demolition and clean-up of a long-closed project that had been on going for 15 years.
  • Working initially with a health system serving a large rural population, B&D Consulting helped develop a multi-party rural health education, research and economic development initiative that is transforming a regional economy. The coalition includes a significant medical school, a state university focusing on nursing, a community college with several allied health programs, the local city government and the leading economic development entity. Together, these organizations are pursuing a ground-breaking collaboration in strategic planning and funding development. Already, the group has worked with B&D Consulting to secure in excess of $10 million for capital and programmatic components of a rural health strategy.
